After having a long, stressful day at work, don’t you always wish to come to a place where you can ease off and unwind? Often that place is what we call “home”. Creating a relaxing and rewarding home environment can make a big difference in whipping stress as well as enjoying life more fully.

I bet many of you have already thought of looking up for useful tips and guides online on how to make your home a stress-free living space. Well, save your time for now and stop looking elsewhere.

Here let me bring to you not just 5, 10 or 20 but 27 ways to make your home a stress-free haven!

Ready? Here we go…

1. Find a place for everything. And remember to put everything back in its place. Teach everyone at home to return pens to the holder, scissors to the drawer.

2. Organize your bookshelves. Since they serve a storage space and display for home accessories, it’s one of the messiest spots in the house. To de-clutter, keep it simple and maintain a clean look. Group together a small set of books that are all of similar or uniform size and color. For visual interest, try alternate horizontal and vertical stacks for the books.
3. Go for bright but subtle hues. This yellow isn’t an overly cheerful hue. It’s subtle that it makes you feel serene.

4. Colors directly affect our mood. So if you want to evoke a peaceful feeling in your living space, choose a color in natural tones. That’s not to say a splash of color can’t be added to the furniture or accessories. But for large spaces like a wall or a ceiling, go neutral!

5. Bring natural light in. Natural lightings has a positive effect on your overall mood. It literally can brighten and energize your day.

6. Expand a space with Mirrors. It can make a small room look big and bounce more light into the room.
7. Do desk lamps. Task lighting helps you from straining your eyes and getting a headache. A reading lamp should fall right in your book’s page when you read.
8. Have lamps with soft light. Utilize it in your favorite space. They fill up an empty corner and improve your mood.

9. Use bright hues on your dark hallway. You create a perception of a wider and airy space.
10. White can be your best friend. In small spaces, this color can do wonders. It reflects light, which makes the room feel expansive. So it’s not too sterile, add punches of color in your accessories.

Up next… tips #s 11-27. Hang on for those. ;)

Leaving Home for a While

I was supposed to go see my sister yesterday. Spend some time with her before heading to Davao to wait for my Saturday flight to Manila. She’d been out there at my cousin’s place – where the hospital she planned on popping the new baby out is… should be happening around this week.

I’m all packed and could head out the door anytime but anxiousness has got into me. For one, it is the fact that I may not be able to get online as much as soon as I get there  and I know how it makes me restless every time. Two, I feel the need to see and talk to JK before he catches his flight out of his country and God knows, I don’t do well with Internet Cafes for that so I preferred to stay. Then the hard rain poured down – made me a little at-rest. Although I know on top of it all is the hard time. I do always have a hard time leaving my comfort zone… my home. After all, it is still where my heart is. But today I am… for a while.

Right now JK is out having dinner with his family. I’m waiting on him to come home so we can talk a little more before we set our view out of each other. In few hours he will be out in the air for a long stretch of hours while I’ll be heading out after lunch to finally go see my sister then to Davao I go to catch my Saturday flight. And in Manila is where I am going to meet the love of my life again for the second time.

WHEW!
